Old Favorites

We've been watching music videos all day. I always end up back at this one.

I've got so much wrapped up in this thing that there's no point in even starting to write about it.

Yeah, I remember that one. I remember seeing it and thinking that there must've been a tie-in with Pleasantville, which was coming out at the same time, right? But no.

It's weird--it "works," in a way, but I also find it oddly monotonous and more or less worshipful of Fiona Apple.

But yeah, it sticks in the mind.

You're right on both counts - it was from the Plesantville soundtrack. And one of the reasons I love it is precisely because of the way the lens regards her - and the way she gazes back. It was directed by PT Anderson, and they were dating at the time, so that explains it and gives it a meta-level of infatuation that's hard to resist...

Yeah, I remember that it was PT Anderson...how weird that he was essentially promoting Pleasantville by following their visual scheme, using a late-era Beatles song.

How does the song fit in with Pleasantville, anyway? They didn't want a Buddy Holly cover, or something?

It's definitely striking.

Though me, I resist all levels of infatuation.

I need to follow suit on that last note.
