Quotes

I spent the day today (yesterday) cutting trees of varying heights and sizes out of cardboard for a video performance piece that I've been invited to contribute to. It won't be occurring until October, but as timing would have it, this coming weekend is about all we can afford to dedicate to it (at least as far as shooting goes).

While I was cutting away, I watched Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. At a certain point I just wanted to pause the movie and put my arms around it and hug it. But since I couldn't, I took that frozen frame and posted it here, where it will be robbed of all its contextual poignancy but will remain, nonetheless, with its implicit suggestion of secrets imparted and tender moments shared, pleasant to look at. It makes my day, at the very least.

I've still got that Science Of Sleep review coming...but in the meantime, I've got to go build a bedroom.

I totally share that Michel Gondry love feeling. I've been going back to some of those magnificent Björk videos that he did during editing over here in Norway, and there's just so much to pick from his work. Eternal Sunshine is probably the film from the 00's that I've repeatedly watched the most times. And since seeing Science of Sleep in Berlin back in february it has kept returning to me, and I desire to see it again as well. Cutting cardboard must be bringing your mind to that universe as well, no? That riding-a-cardboard-horse sequence... wow...

Yep, that's exactly why I put the DVD in...cutting cardboard just put me in a Gondry-esque mood.

I can't stop thinking about The Science Of Sleep either. It's such a beautiful film...so slight, and yet so rich at the same time. I can't wait until it opens!

I love that Director's Series DVD, too. I hope they put out a second volume. The 'I've Been 12 Forever' documentary is wonderful, too.

What is the last one in the Work of Director series that you've seen? You know they've put out Anton Corbijn, Mark Romanek, Stephane Sednaoui and Jonathan Glazer as well as the first three...? I don't know many DVD stores, but PLAY.com is quite cheap.. the price on all these are 13.99 pounds.

Of the second series, the only one I have is the Mark Romanek one. I need to get the others, especially Glazer's - Rabbit In The Headlights alone is worth the price of the disc.
