Film Fatale
The bit of embedded amazingness above is a short film by Karina Lomelin, made in honor of Film Fatale, the film festival for female filmmakers run by our friend Maria Garcia. This year's installment occurs this Saturday night, so clear your calendars.
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 7:30pm
PLACE: Metrognome Collective
(1715 Lancaster Ave. in Ft Worth, TX)
More details available here.
Also occurring this weekend: Barak Epstein and Lauren Graham are getting married, and Frank Moseley is beginning production on a new film entitled Birthday, which has as its basis one of the best short screenplays I've read in a long time. Congratulations all around! I wish I could be in three places at once, but the best I can manage is two.
P.S. The Outlaw Son website has been updated with two additional fragments of film.

That looks nice... we have a similar festival over here in Norway called Femmina film festival. It's sort of remote, though, so I've never been to it. And as a male, I'm not able to submit films. F*cking selectiveness. Heh.
By the wa, total sidenote, but: Cannes announced its Golden Palm contestors today. "Inland Empire" was NOT among the chosen ones. Though "Southland Tales" and "Pan's Labyrinth" was. Very cool lineup in total, as well. Check it out at the official website.

I asked if I could submit a film to Film Fatale with the promise that I would attend in drag, but was turned down. : )
The lack of Inland Empire and The Fountain made the whole Cannes lineup seem slightly lackluster, but I was excited to see John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus on the list, as well as the new Linklater, Inarritu and Kaurismaki pictures.

Don't forget about this too:
Storie Productions screens Stacy Schoolfields acclaimed documentary
Rescue Me in Forth Worth
Sunday, April 23rd, 7:00 p.m
Spiral Diner - 1314 W. Magnolia, Fort Worth, TX 76104
(Free)
Directions: From I-30: Exit Summit/8th Ave, and go South for one mile. At Magnolia turn Left (heading East.) Five blocks down we are on the Northeast corner of 6th and Magnolia.
Coming off the heels of sold out screenings of their narrative feature jumping off bridges at the South by Southwest Film Festival, Storie Productions brings Stacy Schoolfields acclaimed documentary, Rescue Me to Forth Worth.
After learning that over 20,000 animals are euthanized in Austin, Texas every year, Stacy Schoolfield volunteered to foster abandoned animals in her home. This film chronicles her experience, taking viewers straight to the heart of pet overpopulations causes and complexities and examines the costs to individuals and the community. Rescue Me invites viewers to meet rescue volunteers, learn what motivates and challenges them, and experience the highs and lows of volunteering from the satisfaction of matching a foster animal with an adoptive family to the disturbing numbers of adoptable companion animals euthanized every day due to overpopulation. The subjects, including writer-songwriter-politician Kinky Friedman, all speak to the societal costs of our disposable cultures lack of stewardship toward animals. They point out, that fixing the problem of pet overpopulation and abandonment is bigger than one volunteer, or a small army of volunteers can fix.
